Freethe is a granular freeze instrument. Make a sound, tap the canvas, and it captures that moment and sustains it into a living, evolving drone you can shape with your fingers. Layer as many as you like across the stereo field — then drop the same instrument into your DAW as an Audio Unit plug-in.
Coming soon to the App StoreCloud scatters the capture into a soft, shifting haze. Loop holds a clean, steady sustain. Spectral resynthesizes it into a shimmering, tuned pad. One sound, three characters.
Tap anywhere to grab a sound; drag it to set pan and volume. Grab several at once with multi-touch and layer them into slowly breathing soundscapes.
Scrub the read position, add drift, set the loop window, or dial spectral shimmer and width. A live scope traces the incoming signal right behind the canvas.
Pop any grab into its other two characters with a single tap — the same frozen moment as a cloud, a loop and a spectrum, side by side on the grid.
Global tempo with tap-tempo and tempo-synced attack and release. Map a MIDI controller to trigger grabs and drive every control hands-free.
Play it on its own on iPhone, iPad and Mac, or load it as an Audio Unit (AUv3) plug-in in Logic Pro, GarageBand, AUM and other hosts.
Allow microphone access and play, sing, or tap something near your device. Freethe is always listening to the last few seconds.
Tap the canvas the instant after the sound happens. Freethe freezes that moment and sustains it as a drone at the spot you touched.
Pick a mode, scrub and drift the texture, and grab more sounds to build an evolving soundscape — then play it live or in your DAW.
Freethe grew out of a love for the freeze pedal — that little bit of magic where a single instant of sound becomes an endless pad. We rebuilt the idea from scratch as a modern granular instrument: three distinct freeze engines, a canvas you play with your fingers, and the same sound whether you're holding your phone or running it as a plug-in in the studio. It's for anyone who likes to conjure texture, drone and ambience out of the sound already around them.
